The Accelerated Reader program is implemented school-wide in Pre-K through 5th
grade classes. Teachers work with students to set individual goals based on
their reading level as measured by the STAR reading test. Each six weeks
students who meet their goals participate in a school celebration of success. |

Chess
Club |

 |
The Chess Club provides opportunities for students to improve their thinking skills by participating in competitions with students from other schools. |

Chorus |

Fourth and fifth graders have the opportunity to try out for the Dolby Chorus. The Chorus performs annually at Christmas and also at the District Chorus Festival.
Under the direction of Wava McClain, Dolby Chorus receives Superior
ratings for both performance and sight-reading. |

Field Day |

Students have the opportunity to participate in field day, which gives them a chance to participate in a non-competitive way in various physical events.

Grandparents' Day |

Every year Dolby recognizes this special day by inviting grandparents to visit Dolby for a variety of activities. |

4-H Club |

Fourth and fifth grade students have the opportunity for community involvement in this well-established organization. |

KIDS
CARE |

 |
A school wide character education program helps to promote six basic virtues that are valued at Dolby Elementary—caring, respect, fairness, responsibility, trustworthiness, and citizenship. Through the KIDS CARE garden (outside between 2-3 hall and K-1 wing) students have an opportunity to promote character through their own skits, drawings, and writings |

KIDS TV |

Fifth grade students produce daily morning news broadcasts that are viewed throughout the school via a closed circuit system. KIDS TV features opening morning activities such as the Pledge of Allegiance, patriotic singing, the lunch menu, recognition of student and staff birthdays, as well as special announcements and recognition of student and staff accomplishments.

100th Day of School |

The 100th day of school is celebrated through a variety of activities including special dress and math and writing activities. |

Student Council |

Third, fourth, and fifth grade students elect officers and class representatives to this student organization, which provides leadership opportunities for our students. Participation in student council promotes student leadership and community service. |

"What I Want to Be When I Grow Up" Day |

 |
"What I Want to Be When I Grow Up" Day is celebrated annually on Halloween. This special event provides students an opportunity to dress up as their future career. Teachers link studies of careers to mathematics and language arts. |

Honors' Day |

At the end of the year students are recognized for their academic accomplishments in a special school assembly. Academic achievement, perfect attendance, and other special accomplishments are honored. Parents are invited to attend. |
